ECHOS Home 'The Bridge' was operational since 1983. Until the nineties approximately 550 Dutchman were stationed in Mönchengladbach. They all were part of the NSU. Unlike other ECHOS Homes the soldiers lived here with there families on military grounds. Until 2004 approximately 12000 people lived here in a restricted area.
After the closing of the military base Seedorf, the Netherlands Armed Forces Support Agency Germany (NASAG) was transferred to Rheindahlen. The NSU was still operational and sixteen Dutchman were stationed at the British Allied Rapid Reaction Corps (ARRC). ARRC moved to England amidst 2010. The Dutch NSU and NASAG went back to The Netherlands around the same period. With that the need of a military home became invalid. Therefor the board of Home-Base Support decided to close ECHOS Home 'The Bridge' on 1 July 2010.
Apeldoorn, August 3rd 2010:
After 27 years ECHOS Home 'The Bridge' is closed definitive. Manager John Sleyster received a charter from the basecommander for loyal services to the military and their families over the past 27 years.
